What lenders look at
Vehicle finance may depend on income, credit profile, vehicle price and age, down payment, loan-to-value rules and lender policy. Used-car criteria can differ from new-car criteria.
Vehicle & valuation
Lenders may apply different rules to new vehicles, used vehicles and older cars.
Down payment
A larger upfront contribution may reduce the amount borrowed and monthly EMI.
Credit profile
Income, repayment history and existing obligations may affect the lender’s assessment.
Fees & flexibility
Check processing fees, foreclosure terms, insurance and any other charges.
Documents lenders commonly ask for
- KYC
- Income proof (salary slips or ITRs) and bank statements
- New car: proforma invoice or quotation from the dealer
- Used car: registration certificate (RC), insurance and the lender’s valuation
A general list — each lender publishes its own requirements and may ask for more. Share documents only through the lender’s official channels.

- Compare total repayment, not only the monthly instalment.
- For a used car, confirm vehicle age limits and valuation rules.
- Review the loan agreement and any bundled products carefully.
- Use the EMI calculator to test a few down-payment and tenure options.
