What lenders look at
Business finance varies by purpose, business structure, vintage, turnover, banking activity, existing obligations and whether collateral is available. Published eligibility is only a guide; lender underwriting determines the final offer.
Business vintage & constitution
Lenders may set minimum operating history and accept only specified business structures.
Turnover & banking
Bank statements, revenue patterns, GST records and financial statements may be relevant.
Repayment capacity
Review existing debt, cash flow and whether the proposed repayment fits the business cycle.
Security & purpose
Unsecured loans, overdrafts, equipment finance and property-backed facilities have different requirements.
Documents lenders commonly ask for
- KYC of the owners, partners or directors
- Business registration (e.g. GST, Udyam, partnership deed or incorporation documents)
- ITRs and financial statements, usually for the last two years
- Business bank statements
- GST returns, if registered
A general list — each lender publishes its own requirements and may ask for more. Share documents only through the lender’s official channels.
Before you submit an application
- Prepare recent bank statements and available financial or GST records.
- Define the funding purpose and amount needed, including how it will be repaid.
- Compare processing fees, collateral, guarantees, tenure and prepayment terms.
- Verify lender-specific criteria using official sources before sharing documents.

Can a new business get a loan?
It depends on the lender, product, business age, income evidence, collateral and other criteria. Do not assume approval based only on a general eligibility guide.
Is a business loan always unsecured?
No. Some products are unsecured while others require property, equipment, receivables or other security.
What is the difference between a term loan and working capital?
A term loan is generally repaid over a defined schedule; working-capital facilities are structured to address operating cash-flow needs. Terms vary by product.
